Facts About The "Nigerian" Shrew!!! The Nigerian shrew also known as "asin" in South Western Nigeria ( Crocidura nigeriae ) is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae . The animal is found in Benin , Burkina Faso , Cameroon , Ivory Coast , Nigeria , Togo , and there are claims of it also being found in Ghana . Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests . It is also threatened by habitat loss , but at this time it is not at a large risk of becoming extinct.  So next time you see this animal be sure to call it a shrew and not asin. get ready for more !!!!!!  images below: photo credit: Google.
